It’s Earth Day. Earth Day, of course, being a celebration of nature and a day devoted to preserving our planet. And, I must say, I battle with the way I feel about Earth Day. A part of me thinks we should be aware of our environmental impact everyday, so why is there only one day devoted to it? Another, more compassionate part of me knows that devotion, be it a week, a day, an hour, is how awareness begins.

It’s unrealistic to expect consumerism will stop today, but, here’s a compromise; if you’re going to spend, spend sensibly. Think about your purchases and how they affect the global economy, the environment, the earth. More than ever, we as consumers have choice. Be critical thinkers. Choose wisely. Boo Davis is the hippest heavy metal quilter around. Yes, heavy metal quilter. The colors she chooses for her quilts are bright, her patterns are reminiscent of Gee’s Bend quilts, and yet she manages to work skulls and sayings like “rock out with your [you know what] out” front and center on them. Definitely not your average quilter.

This summer, friends of me and the beau are getting married at an outdoor venue in Lyons, Colorado called Planet Bluegrass. They asked us if we could design their invites, sticking with the bluegrass theme. The result? Inspired by Hatch Show, a personalized set of wedding invites that holler “help our Colorado-lovin’-outdoor-enjoying-adventure-seekin’-concert-goin’ selves celebrate our love for each other!” Congrats, Rachel & Nate.
